Khaya sits an eight-minute walk from Kite Beach. Here the lofty wind and the epic waves made this legendary spot in Bloubergstrand the home of King of the Air. Come experience this big-air playground for yourself.

Cape Town is on every kiter's bucket list for a reason. From October to March the Cape Doctor (the south-easter) powers in off the Atlantic, delivering the steady 25-knot-plus days that keep Bloubergstrand busy from morning to sunset.
There's huge space to ride, beautiful waves for the directional crowd, and such amazing kickers for big-air that the world's best gather here every summer for the King of the Air. Whether you're chasing your first megaloop or just long downwinders in the sun, this is the playground.
And the sharks? They much prefer surfers. 🦈But in all seriousness: the local orcas treat shark livers as a delicacy, so we haven't seen one here in years.
Why kiters make Khaya home base
We're a kite & yoga house built by travellers who kite, for travellers who kite. Come for a few nights or the whole season: roll out of bed, grab your gear, and you're on the water before the crowd.
A short walk to Kite Beach at Bloubergstrand.
We store windsurfing gear and surfboards for you too.
Rinse the salt and sand off your gear and hang it to dry, so it's ready for tomorrow's session.
Long-stay discounts kick in from 30 nights. Many guests come for a trip and end up staying months.
A returning, long-stay community, so it's easy to find people to ride with and share downwinders or car trips.
Yoga classes, a sauna and an ever-changing daily programme of adventures will keep you excited every day.

Learning to kite
We're not a kite school ourselves, but over the years we've got to know the instructors up and down this coast. Tell us your level and what you want out of the trip, and we'll connect you with a trusted, certified local teacher who fits.
Never flown a kite, or coming back after a break? A quick WhatsApp is all it takes.
From a hand-picked selection of highly trusted local teachers, beginner-friendly and safety-first.
Flat, forgiving lagoon water at Shark Bay and Langebaan for your first lessons, then the Blouberg swell when you're ready to progress.
When to come & where to ride
| Months | Season | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Oct – Nov | Shoulder | My favourite time to kite. Usually great wind, few people on the water and an excited buzz as the season starts kicking off. |
| Dec – Feb | Peak | Strongest, most reliable wind. Busiest beach, biggest energy. |
| Mar | Shoulder | Still many great days without the crowds & lovely weather. |
We're open 1 October – 1 April, right through the south-easter season. Long stays get 10% off from 30 nights, 15% from 60, 18% from 90.
The home spot: big space, waves and the King of the Air arena on your doorstep.
A little more forgiving on a busy day, and a fun wave when it's on.
Flat, shallow lagoon water: the classic beginner and freestyle spots.
Arguably the most epically beautiful kitespot in the world, do you dare to go?
On the water

Good to know
The wind season runs roughly October to March. December, January and February have the reputation for the strongest wind, but October and November are often just as good, with far fewer people on the water.
About an 8 minute walk or 1 minute drive. Khaya is at 8 Crinum Road in Bloubergstrand (Table View), so you can walk if you like, but we also have plenty of parking for your cars.
Absolutely. We don't run a school ourselves, but we'll connect you with a hand-picked selection of trusted, certified local instructors and point you to the right beginner-friendly water. Message us your level before you book and we'll help plan it.
Yes, there's secure storage for your boards and bags for the length of your stay, plus a wash-and-dry station to rinse the salt off and hang everything to dry between sessions.
We don't rent gear on-site, but the instructors and kite shops we work with on the beach can sort you out. Tell us what you need and we'll point you the right way.
It's worth bringing everything you have. However, you'll likely use your smallest kite most. A 6 or 7 for light riders and an 8 for taller/stronger riders is usually perfect.
Our side of the Atlantic is on the chilly side, so you'll want a wetsuit. Almost everyone rides a 4/3, which is perfect for the whole season.
Plenty: yoga classes and a sauna at the house. Hikes, food markets, wine tastings and more fun activities organised every single day.
Rooms fill fast in peak season
Private rooms and dorm beds, a short walk from the water. Message us on WhatsApp and we'll help you time your trip with the season and sort your lessons.
